Waiting on Wednesday: Origin by Jessica Khoury

For those of you who don't know "Waiting On" Wednesday is an event hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine. The purpose is to let others know which book you are anticipating and can't wait til it comes out to read it.

Origin
Origin by Jessica Khoury
Publisher: Razorbill
Pub Date: September 4, 2012
Pages: 372

Synopsis:

Pia has grown up in a secret laboratory hidden deep in the Amazon rain forest. She was raised by a team of scientists who have created her to be the start of a new immortal race. But on the night of her seventeenth birthday, Pia discovers a hole in the electric fence that surrounds her sterile home—and sneaks outside the compound for the first time in her life.

Free in the jungle, Pia meets Eio, a boy from a nearby village. Together, they embark on a race against time to discover the truth about Pia’s origin—a truth with deadly consequences that will change their lives forever.

Origin is a beautifully told, shocking new way to look at an age-old desire: to live forever, no matter the cost. This is a supremely compelling debut novel that blends the awakening romance of Matched with the mystery and jungle conspiracy of Lost.

Why I am Waiting:
Okay this one sounds super awesome and totally different from anything I have really read before. I have been obsessed a little bit over the Penguin Breathless reads, which I can't wait to read them all, and this one sounds awesome. I really can not wait to read it. =] Also this one comes out in less than a week so I am of course getting even more excited. Can't wait.

Follow Friday(22)

Gain New Blog Followers

Follow Friday is a weekly blog hop event hosted by Parajunkee and Alison Can Read.
This week's Question is:
Q: Worst cover? What is the worst cover of a book that you've read and loved?

Wow, this weeks question is a toughy. I really have to think about this one. There are definitely a few books that I have read that in my opinion have terrible covers. Below are just a few of them. I don't think I can name just one.

And Then There Were None
And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie
I just really hate this cover. I mean it doesn't convey at all the awesomeness of the book. A lone person standing on a bunch of rocks. I mean how boring does this look. I wish they could come up with a better portrayal of the essence of the book.

Inkheart (Inkheart, #1)
Inkheart by Cornelia Funke
I don't get this cover at all. From what I remember it doesn't even have a lizard gecko thing in the book. This is such a wonderful story that deserves a better cover. I am just sayin.

Angels and Demons (Robert Langdon, #1)
Angels and Demons by Dan Brown
This is one of my all time favorite reads. I mean it involves a high speed action packed mystery and this is the cover they give us. I mean it makes no sense. A man running into fire, with some sort of ripped page and a building with windows. Once again wished it had a better cover.

The Giver (The Giver, #1)
The Giver by Lois Lowry
I recently read this book like a year and a half ago and it blew my mind. Completely loved it and it was my first real sort of dystopian that is a classic. I have seen this book around for years ever since 5th grade and the main reason I didn't show interest in it is because of the creepy looking man on the cover. I mean who wants to read a book with a squinting angry looking man on it. This amazing book totally needs a cover revamp pronto. So glad I actually piced it up and read it. =]

That's it for me. I acutally had fun with this Follow Friday. =]

P.S.
CAPTCHA: If you have CAPTCHA word verification enabled on your blog, please take it off. It makes it much more difficult for readers to comment. Please look at Alison's CAPTCHA Eradication Post to learn how to get rid of it.

The Dragon and the Crow
Publisher: Createspace
Dragonfall Press
Publication date: 12/28/2011
Pages: 382

Synopsis:
A great power is rising in Arkadia; an uprising of dark magick led by a Witch who wants nothing less than chaos, terror and the King’s head on a stake. She believes in a prophecy — an ancient rhyme about a child unique within the lands; a child destined to bring back the stars and end the King’s rule forever. A child who cannot do magick at all.

Here are my Teasers this week:

"You said you would take me to the road, Brin accused, realising he had been misled. You said you could not lie.
If you had been listening more closely to what I said, the fox explained, looking up at him quite smugly, you'd have noticed I never said anything about the road save that I knew where it lay. Which incidentally is in the opposite direction to that we have come."

"As Mender came toward the bar his confident stride faltered when he realised that it was no simple aquarium for fish. It was a battle tank, and it held two dueling mermen, both near death. Open-mouthed, Mender was transfixed at the sight of flashing silver tails twisting and churning the water as each mermen sought a purchase on the other's neck and torso. The Taverner slammed down a heavy glass, forcing Mender to look down from the imprisoned creatures."

Waiting on Wednesday: Fathomless by Jackson Pearce

For those of you who don't know "Waiting On" Wednesday is an event hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine. The purpose is to let others know which book you are anticipating and can't wait til it comes out to read it.
 Fathomless (Fairytale Retellings, #3)
Publisher: Little, Brown Books for Young Readers
Publication date: 9/4/2012
Pages: 304

Synopsis:

Celia Reynolds is the youngest in a set of triplets and the one with the least valuable power. Anne can see the future, and Jane can see the present, but all Celia can see is the past. And the past seems so insignificant -- until Celia meets Lo.

Lo doesn't know who she is. Or who she was. Once a human, she is now almost entirely a creature of the sea -- a nymph, an ocean girl, a mermaid -- all terms too pretty for the soulless monster she knows she's becoming. Lo clings to shreds of her former self, fighting to remember her past, even as she's tempted to embrace her dark immortality.

When a handsome boy named Jude falls off a pier and into the ocean, Celia and Lo work together to rescue him from the waves. The two form a friendship, but soon they find themselves competing for Jude's affection. Lo wants more than that, though. According to the ocean girls, there's only one way for Lo to earn back her humanity. She must persuade a mortal to love her . . . and steal his soul.

Why I am Waiting:

First off, Jackson Pearce is such an amazing person and she writes really awesome books. I mean this is her third fairytale retellings book. Who wouldn't want to read them all. Even though I still really need to read Sweetly (Second in the retellings series) I will totally still be buying this one on the day it comes out. Can't wait. Less than a month left. Comes out September 4th. =]

Follow Friday(21)

Gain New Blog Followers

Follow Friday is a weekly event hosted by Parajunkee and Alison Can Read.
I am the feature this week I am so excited. I didn't even think that I would even be considered to be the feature. Thanks to the wonderful and awesome Rachel and Allison who chose me. =]

This week's Question is:

Q: What would you do over if you were to start your blog again from scratch?

This is really kind of a tough question this week. There are a few things but not a lot that I would change for my blog. The following is a list of items I would change or do over:

1) I would have a better background picture then the generic bookshelves that blogger provides, even though it does go with the name of my blog. I want a more authentic original look of my blog but I am not really that tech savvy to be able to do it myself. I tried before and almost messed up my entire blog.

2) This ties into number 1. I would want my blog to look more professional and look completely different than it is now.  If I had to do it from scratch, I would also consider going with a different blog creator other than blogger, like possibly wordpress. I didn't really research a lot about it before I just jumped right into it. I would do a ton more research if I started from scratch.

3) Another thing is, I would consider partnering with someone else to share in the postings, reviews and memes of my blog. When I started I didn't really realize how much work blogging actually is. Don't get me wrong I love blogging and enjoy doing it. It's just having another person to help run it would definitely bring off the edge of all the work that goes into it.

The bottom line from this question is that I would really never want to start over from scratch because I love all the hard work I have already put into it and unless I knew I would get everything I wanted there would be no point in starting over. Also I love the way my blog looks and I love all of my followers for supporting me on my blogging journey in trying to figure everything out that comes from this crazy, fun, and amazing book blogging blogosphere. =]

Waiting on Wednesday: Shades of Earth by Beth Revis

For those of you who don't know "Waiting On" Wednesday is an event hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine. The purpose is to let others know which book you are anticipating and can't wait til it comes out to read it.

Shades of Earth (Across the Universe, #3)
Shades of Earth by Beth Revis
Publisher: Razorbill
Publication date: 1/15/2013
Pages: 400

Synopsis:

The final book in the trilogy by New York Times bestselling author Beth Revis!

Amy and Elder have finally left the oppressive walls of the spaceship Godspeed behind. They're ready to start life afresh—to build a home—on Centauri-Earth, the planet that Amy has traveled 25 trillion miles across the universe to experience. But this new Earth isn't the paradise that Amy had been hoping for. Amy and Elder must race to uncover who—or what—else is out there if they are to have any hope of saving their struggling colony and building a future together. But as each new discovery brings more danger, Amy and Elder will have to look inward to the very fabric of what makes them human on this, their most harrowing journey yet. Because if the colony collapses? Then everything they have sacrificed—friends, family, life on Earth—will have been meaningless.

Why I am Waiting:

Beth Revis just sent in her final edits and the book is being sent off to the typesetter. Follow Friday(20)

FF 2012 Feature & Follow #80

Follow Friday is a weekly event hosted by Parajunkee and Alison Can Read.
This week's Question is:

Q: Do your reading habits change based on your mood? Do you read a certain genre if you are feeling depressed or happy?

My reading habits don't really change based on my mood. I read books that I know I will like most of the time so that they are a comfort to me. These are my go to books and I don't realy change genres that much. What does change depending on my mood is the length of a particular book I choose to read. Long books take me forever to read so I need to be in a particular mood to read them. While short books are fun and quick and can add to my Goodreads Reading Challenge faster lol.

Link me up to your Follow Friday's and I will be sure to follow you back.
Thanks for Visiting and Happy Friday =]

Waiting on Wednesday: The Archived by Victoria Schwab

For those of you who don't know "Waiting On" Wednesday is an event hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine. The purpose is to let others know which book you are anticipating and can't wait til it comes out to read it.

The Archived (The Archived, #1)
Publisher: Hyperion Books for Children
Publication date: 1/22/2013
Pages: 336

Synopsis:
Imagine a place where the dead rest on shelves like books.

Each body has a story to tell, a life seen in pictures that only Librarians can read. The dead are called Histories, and the vast realm in which they rest is the Archive.

Da first brought Mackenzie Bishop here four years ago, when she was twelve years old, frightened but determined to prove herself. Now Da is dead, and Mac has grown into what he once was, a ruthless Keeper, tasked with stopping often-violent Histories from waking up and getting out. Because of her job, she lies to the people she loves, and she knows fear for what it is: a useful tool for staying alive.

Being a Keeper isn't just dangerous—it's a constant reminder of those Mac has lost. Da's death was hard enough, but now her little brother is gone too. Mac starts to wonder about the boundary between living and dying, sleeping and waking. In the Archive, the dead must never be disturbed. And yet, someone is deliberately altering Histories, erasing essential chapters. Unless Mac can piece together what remains, the Archive itself might crumble and fall.

In this haunting, richly imagined novel, Victoria Schwab reveals the thin lines between past and present, love and pain, trust and deceit, unbearable loss and hard-won redemption.

Why I am Waiting:
Because Victoria Schwab totally rocks. Just read The Near Witch and I loved everything about it. Plus the premise of her new book sounds absoulutely amazing. I mean the dead resting on shelves like books. You had me from the first line. Really can't wait to read it and so hope I get an ARC of it or get to read it on NetGalley. =]
