Review #23: Fateful by Claudia Gray

Cover Image

  • Pub. Date: September 2011

  • Publisher: HarperCollins Publishers

  • Format: Hardcover , 336pp

  •
    Synopsis
Eighteen-year-old maid Tess Davies is determined to escape the wealthy, troubled family she serves. It’s 1912, and Tess has been trapped in the employ of the Lisles for years, amid painful memories and twisted secrets. But now the Lisle family is headed to America, with Tess in tow. Once the ship they’re sailing on—the RMS Titanic—reaches its destination, Tess plans to strike out and create a new life for herself.
Her single-minded focus shatters when she meets Alec, a handsome first-class passenger who captivates her instantly. But Alec has secrets of his own. He’s in a hurry to leave Europe, and whispers aboard the ship say it’s because of the tragic end of his last affair with the French actress who died so gruesomely and so mysteriously. . . .
Soon Tess will learn just how dark Alec’s past truly is. The danger they face is no ordinary enemy: werewolves exist and are stalking him—and now her, too. Her growing love for Alec will put Tess in mortal peril, and fate will do the same before their journey on the Titanic is over.
In Fateful, New York Times bestselling author Claudia Gray delivers paranormal adventure, dark suspense, and alluring romance set against the opulent backdrop of the Titanic’s first—and last—voyage.

    My Thoughts/Review
This book was so fantastic. I am so glad that I bought it on its release day and read it right away. This book is set on and in one of my all time favorite historical moments, on the Titanic. It follows a maid named Tess who wants to escape and quit the family she works for once the Titanic docks in New York City. Now, we all know what happens on the Titanic but what makes this book even more awesome is the paranormal aspects that Claudia Gray adds to this book. I loved all of the characters she created and her writing style is so easy to read. Tess and Alec are such great characters that you can't help but love them and feel for them from the beginning.
This book literally had me on the edge of my seat. It was so suspenseful I didn't know what would happen next. It felt like darkness was lurking around every corner and I didn't know what would pop out at me next. At times it actually made me forget what I already new was going to happen and had me hoping that the outcome would be happily ever after. Even though I kept thinking there is no way Tess and Alec could survive the sinking of the Titanic, I still held hope.
The background stories and all the details were really written fantastically. This book made me really invested in Tess Davies life. I loved all of the little shocking moments in the book. When you discover all the details and backstories of the characters and how it all goes down in the end. The one complaint I did have about this book is that the actual sinking of the Titanic was a little rushed. You spend the whole book leading up to this moment, putting extra detail into the story of Tess Davies and then rush through the actual sinking. I really just wanted a little bit more incorporation of the ship going down into the story.
I really loved the ending of the this book. It leaves off on where you aren't disappointed in the end and you should be at peace with what happens but leaves you wanting more. I really really hope that a sequel will be made of this book telling what happens after. I feel so invested in these characters that I really want a whole other book. Here's hoping. =]

    Overall I give this book...

    5 out of 5 Stars

I definitely suggest this book to anyone who loves young adult literature and paranormal books. If you liked my review or even the synopsis, you should definitely pick up a copy. This book is so worth the read, especailly if you like anything that has to do with the Titanic or Werewolves. It was such an awesome read. =]

The more time that Amber spends with Cade, the more she’s drawn to him. And the more she’s troubled by his darkness. Because Cade’s not just living in the now—he’s living each moment like it’s his last.

    My Thoughts/Review
I really liked this book. I am really beginning to love reading books in verse because they just turn out to be so good. Lisa Schroeder is such an amazing author. She writes such great stories and she does it by picking the right words to be able to tell them perfectly. This book is about two teenagers going through so rough times in there lives where the have big decisions to make that will affect there lives forever.
Everyone at some point in there life has to make a tough decision. That is why I think this book can relate to everyone. You have to be able to live life and face what comes at you. You can't back down and run away. In this book you discover if Cade and Amber can face what life has thrown at them. I loved both the characters in the book. Its like these two were meant to find each other on their day befores. They really helped each all through out this one day and the love that they find in each other is really special.
If you have never read a verse book before I definitely suggest you go check one out. They are all really powerful fast reads that are so amazing, at least the ones that I have read were. Lisa Schroeder is a brillant writer and I can't wait to get my hands on her other books. This book is really great for everyone of all ages. I really suggest  you go check it out and read it. =] If anyone can give me anymore great selections on verse books please leave them in the comments for me. Thank you. =]

    My Teaser:

    "In heavy cursive, it reads:
Your to help me, Tess. Not stand in my way. To prove it to you, within two days, I'll hurt someone you love. Not you. I'll hurt you when you disappoint me-or when it pleases me.
He didn't sign it. He didn't have to."

This book is really good so far. I really want to find out what happens with the story. Especially with it being set on the Titanic and we all know what happened on the Titanic. If you liked the teaser I definitely suggest buying this book because so far it is everything I wanted it to be. =]

    Follow Friday(1)

Follow Friday is a weekly event hosted by Parajunkee and Alison Can Read.
    This weeks question is:
    Q. It's that pesky magic book fairy again! She has another wish: What imaginary book world would you like to make a reality?
I would have to say Alagaesia from The Inheritance Trilogy. It would just be really cool to be able to use magic with only your words and be a dragon rider like Eragon. I don't know why but it is one of my favorite worlds. It is huge and vast. It has many different landscapes. It has mountains, desserts and even a forest. With all the races of people, elves and dwarves I would just love living there. It would be really cool if all of a sudden that world was a reality.
    Sé onr sverdar sitja hvass!

Don't forget to leave me a comment with your link to your FF or let me know what your answer is to the question. =]

Review #21: Across the Universe by Beth Revis

Across the Universe (Across the Universe, #1)

  • Pub. Date: January 2011
  • Publisher: Penguin Group (USA) Incorporated
  • Format: Hardcover , 416pp

  • Synopsis:
Amy is a cryogenically frozen passenger aboard the vast spaceship Godspeed. She expects to awaken on a new planet, 300 years in the future. But fifty years before Godspeed's scheduled landing, Amy's cryo chamber is unplugged, and she is nearly killed.
Now, Amy is caught inside an enclosed world where nothing makes sense. Godspeed's passengers have forfeited all control to Eldest, a tyrannical and frightening leader, and Elder, his rebellious and brilliant teenage heir.
Amy desperately wants to trust Elder. But should she? All she knows is that she must race to unlock Godspeed's hidden secrets before whoever woke her tries to kill again.

    My Thoughts/Review:
I have seen this book around the blogosphere but I never really knew what it was about. I was in my Borders one day and I saw it there. So I decided to read the synopsis. It sounded really good so I bought it. I discovered that the back of the book jacket had a blue print of the ship on it and it made me want it even more. I wasn't going to read it right away but it looked really good so I decided to read the first chapter to see if I wanted to read more of it. The first chapter hooked me into this awesome book so much. Beth Revis is such an awesome writer. If this book looks interesting to you then I suggest reading the first chapter and I guarantee you will most likely want to read more. I can't express how much I loved this book. It is one of the best books I have ever read. It intrigued me so much. I didn't know that I would really like a book that takes place in space aboard a spaceship but I guess I really like that genre. This book has so much in it that I just loved. It has lies, murder, inventions, space and a love story. It even has some twists and turns and  shocking moments in it that I wasn't expecting at all. This book, even though it takes place in the future, reflects how humans can act and how the passage of time doesn't really make a difference. I loved Amy and Elder as characters. They both had there own personalities that made the book even better. You really got to know them as they tried to figure out what was happening on the ship. I even loved the background characters. They really stuck out to me as great characters even though they were in the background. I am so glad that I read this book right away after I bought it. Overall I give this book a 5 out of 5.  It was so fantastic. It is definitly one of my favorite books of 2011 so far. I think everyone should read it and just about everyone will like it.  I just loved this book so much, I can not wait for the sequel A Million Suns to come out in January 2012. I can't say anything more positive about this book. I really hope you all go check it out because I loved it so much.

the back of my neck sweaty.

    Hey, Amber?
    Cade knocks.
    You okay?

I'll be out in a minute.

Cade's words echo in my head.

I bet others would say screw it,
    and just not go back."

I just got interested in reading verse books and this is the second one I have read. Lisa Schroeder is such a great author. If you haven't checked out her work I definitely suggest you do. This book is really good so far and I can't wait to find out what happens in it. =]

    In My Mailbox(8)

    Hi everyone,

This week was another slow week for books. I only got 4 books. Also this week has been busy for me so I didn't have time to do a video vlog, so I am showing you pictures of what I got instead. =]

In My Mailbox is a weekly feature/meme/video hosted by Kristi at The Story Siren. It is where you tell everyone what you got this week book wise in your mailbox or whatever. =]

I went to Borders last week again and got 3 books while the 4th book I got was one that I won. =]

    Publisher: Hyperion Voice
-This book looked really interesting to me and it was really cheap at the Borders Closing Sale.
If anyone has read it let me know how it is and if it is a good read. =]

     by Michael Macauley
     Knopf
-I can't wait to read this book. If you know me then you know that I love the Inheritance Cycle and this book should be an awesome almanac for it. I saw it at Borders and new since it was like 50% off I had to have it. =]

    Publisher: Henry Holt
-This book I won from Sash and Em's Blog who have such an awesome blog. I am so happy that I won this book from them. It is the second in the Jenna Fox Chronicles Series. The premise of these books sound so good and once I read the first book I will read this one. I can't wait to read it. =]

    Publisher: Razorbill
-I have heard such great things about this book and book series. So when I saw it in Borders and it was 60% off I figured what the heck I might as well get it. And plus since its about vampires I should like this book. Also can't wait to read it. =]

That is all the books I got this week In My Mailbox.

What did you get in yours this week?
Let me know in the comments.

Also school is starting this week, so there might be less blogging and reading going on but I will try my best to post and read as much as I possibly can. =]

    Till next time,

    Happy Reading.

Waiting on Wednesday(7): A Million Suns by Beth Revis

For those of you who don't know "Waiting On" Wednesday is an event hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine. The purpose is to let others know which book you are anticipating and can't wait til it comes out to read it.

  • Pub. Date: January 10, 2012

  • Publisher: Razorbill

  • Format: Hardcover , 400pp

  • A Million Suns (Across the Universe, #2)

When Elder learns harrowing news about the space ship Godspeed, he and Amy must work together to unlock a puzzle that was set in motion hundreds of years earlier, all the while dealing with the romance that’s growing between them and the chaos that threatens to tear them apart. It all boils down to one mind-bending conclusion: They have to get off this ship.

Even though I only just started reading Across the Universe, I can't wait for this book to come out too. This book series has completely enthralled me. The premise that Beth Revis has come up with is so good and unique. I can't wait to see what happens on the spaceship Godspeed. I am so excited for this book and for this series to continue. =]

Thanks for visiting and Happy Reading. =]

Teaser Tuesday(6): Across the Universe by Beth Revis

    Hi guys,

If you saw my In My Mailbox this week then you should know that I freaked out alot over this book, so I decided I would give you a teaser of this. I am reading it right now and it is so awesome so far. =]

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by Miz B at Should Be Reading.
Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
    Grab your current read
    Open to a random page
Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

    Cover ImageSynopsis:

    My Teaser:

"Maybe I'm dreaming now. I've dreamt a lifetime in a thirty-minute nap. Maybe I'm still in that space between frozen and not, and this is all a dream. Maybe we haven't left Earth yet. Maybe I'm still in that limbo year before the ship launches, and I'm stuck, trapped in a dream I can't wake from.
Maybe I've still got three hundred and one years stretching out before me.
Maybe I'm not even asleep yet. Not all the way.
         Maybe, maybe, maybe.
I only know one thing for certain.

I want my year back." pg. 13 -Beth Revis

The first chapter of this book is completly what got me hooked. If this book looks good to you I really suggest reading the first chapter. I really am somewhat obsessed with this book it is so good.
